If you run your business from WhatsApp, the idea of connecting it to another tool can feel risky. You do not want to lose your conversations, hand over your login, or wake up to a bot replying to customers before you were ready. This page explains, in plain terms, exactly how the connection works, what stays in your hands, and what Answr can and cannot do.
What an official connection means
Answr connects through Meta's official WhatsApp Business Platform, using the Cloud API. Answr is a Meta Technology Provider, which means the connection runs through Meta's approved channel rather than through a workaround.
- No scraping and no unofficial "web WhatsApp" automation.
- No request for your personal WhatsApp password or WhatsApp login.
- The setup uses Meta's Embedded Signup flow, the same in-app process Meta provides for connecting a business number.
In short, this is the standard way Meta lets a business connect its WhatsApp number to an outside tool. Nothing about it is a shortcut around Meta.
What stays under your control
Connecting does not mean handing over your business. You keep the parts that matter:
- Your number. You connect your own business number and it stays yours.
- The WhatsApp Business app. Where the current coexistence flow supports it, you keep using the WhatsApp Business app normally, and Answr works alongside it.
- The decision to go live. Setup, training, and testing happen first. Replies to real customers only begin when you choose to turn them on.
- Manual takeover. If you reply to a conversation yourself, Answr goes quiet in that thread so it never competes with you or confuses the customer.
- Pause and resume. You can pause automatic replies at any time and turn them back on when you want.
You get value before you connect
You do not connect your WhatsApp Business number on day one. You get to see Answr work first, on regular WhatsApp, and only connect when you are convinced. The order looks like this:
- Sign up. No credit card, no call with a salesperson.
- Teach Answr. Feed it your website, price list, policies, or just tell it how your business works in plain language.
- Test it. Use the simulator to ask it customer-style questions and see exactly how it answers before anything is live.
- Connect WhatsApp Business. When you are ready to go live with real customers, connect your business number through Meta.
- Turn on replies. You make the explicit choice to let Answr start answering customers.
If you never reach step four, Answr never touches a single real customer conversation.
What the connection looks like, step by step
When you do decide to connect, the flow runs inside Meta's official Embedded Signup. A typical connection goes like this:
- Sign in with your Facebook account.
- Choose or create your Meta business portfolio.
- Select how you want to connect your WhatsApp number.
- Verify the number with a code from Meta.
- Finish the steps Meta asks for.
- Return to Answr once Meta confirms the connection.
- Make the explicit choice to activate replies.
You move through Meta's own screens for the parts that belong to Meta, then land back in Answr in control of what happens next.
What can slow a connection down
We would rather be honest than promise that it always works instantly. Because the connection depends on Meta, a few things can delay or block it:
- A restricted Facebook account. If your Facebook account has limits or restrictions, Meta may not let the connection complete.
- A business portfolio issue. If your Meta business portfolio is incomplete or restricted, the flow can stall.
- An unfinished Meta flow. If a required step in Meta's screens is skipped, the connection will not finish.
- An unsupported WhatsApp setup. Some number and app combinations are not eligible for the connection type you picked.
- An expired link. A connection link left too long can time out, and you simply start it again.
None of these are unusual, and most are quick to sort out. Meta also requires a digital presence for the business, such as a website, a Facebook page, Instagram, TikTok, or even a personal Facebook profile.
Questions owners ask
Will I lose my existing conversations?
No. Connecting your number to Answr through Meta does not delete your chats. Answr starts handling new customer messages once you turn replies on, and only then.
Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business app?
Yes, where the current coexistence flow supports it. You keep using the WhatsApp Business app normally and Answr works alongside it. If you reply to a conversation yourself, Answr stays quiet in that thread so it never competes with you.
Does Answr start replying immediately?
No. Setup, training, and testing come first, and they all work on regular WhatsApp. Replies to real customers only begin after you make the explicit choice to activate them, and you can pause them at any time.
Why is a Facebook account required?
WhatsApp is owned by Meta. Connecting a business WhatsApp number to any outside tool goes through Meta's standard process, which uses a Facebook account. This is Meta's requirement, not an extra step Answr adds.
Do I need a website?
Meta requires some digital presence for the business. That can be a website, but a Facebook page, Instagram, TikTok, or even a personal Facebook profile can also satisfy it.
Can I test Answr before connecting?
Yes. You can teach Answr and try it in the simulator on regular WhatsApp, asking it customer-style questions and checking its answers, well before you connect a WhatsApp Business number.
Can I pause the agent?
Yes. You can pause automatic replies whenever you want and turn them back on later. When you reply to a customer yourself, Answr also goes quiet in that conversation on its own.
What happens if the connection breaks?
If a connection link expires or a Meta step is not finished, the connection simply does not complete, and you start the flow again. Nothing about your number changes because of a failed attempt.
Can I go back to using regular WhatsApp?
The WhatsApp Business app is a free Meta app, and switching your number between the standard WhatsApp app and the WhatsApp Business app is a Meta app choice you make on your phone. People move between them as their needs change.
